I've been waiting and waiting, like many others for the white iPhone 4 to be released, and have been disappointed. I think I'm going to get a used iPhone 4 black (hopefully in shotty condition for cheap) and buy the white kit and transfer.
Questions:
Will the proximity sensor work?
Will the earpiece work?
Are these faulty in all white conversions?
How bad is the camera really?
Any insight would be very much appreciated.
Breakdown here:
Proximity Sensor will work at about 85% with the sharpie fix. To the point where you really won't notice it not working, just auto dimming and stuff like that suffers.
Earpiece will work.
All white conversions will have this, unless it's real high quality, which I have not heard of yet.
Camera is not bad. Without flash there is no problem. Using flash you may or may not have bleed, it's kinda luck of the draw. Might be able to fix it if you can find a way to block light bleed. Super low light conditions, where flash is definitely needed is where your pictures will be useless.

Thanks arn, I think it will work well. A few questions:
I'm assuming that the "Featured Guides" links at the top of the forums will be changed to automatically refer to them, but will they be displayed anywhere else (eg on the main pages of MacRumors and the guides)? As it is I think the user encouragement is limited by the fact that it's not obvious they are world-editable until you visit the pages themselves.
Are you wanting just one world-editable article each week, or a few? I think having about 5 per week would be more advantageous since a single article represents such a small portion of the Guides, and we have enough people to watch over changes. There are only so many improvements that can be made to one article, so a week seems like a long time to focus on a single page. Take for example the Aperture article, which has only had one change in the last 6 days yet has been the only featured guide during that period.
Finally, would there be a set time each week for the article selection to change, and would it be just you or all the sysops choosing them? If the latter, would there be prior discussion as to which articles to select (eg in the WorldEdit talk page), or would sysops just add articles without consultation?

y dont they feed it live??
Most likely to help promote being in the keynote attendance. Or it's out of MacWorld's budget. Or Apple said no, because they want exclusive rights to the video and want to put it online on their own terms. Sounds to me like the ladder.

I done the switch to SSD last night in the Mac Mini. I used the Intel X25-M SATA 80GB SSD and used Carbon Copy Cloner to Clone the New and old drives.

I am doing a website for a client and they have sent me their logo.
The design is pretty basic but the image they sent me doesn't quite do it justice.
I was wondering if anyone could knock up a slightly sleeker looking logo?

I've put a Samsung 470 Series 128GB SSD in my 2010 MBP17 and am very happy with it. Benchmark numbers don't mean much in real life, but I get about 230MB/s both sequential read/write. Spent $150 for the drive and $15 for the Optibay, both from eBay.
After two months of using the SSD, I'm used to the speed of SSD and many times when I use computers with regular HDD, I do feel SLOW.
I'm sure SSD will be standard once it becomes more affordable, but it may take years because of the price per GB now. Most people will want/need 256GB unless they have SSD/HDD setup so it will take some time to have SSD as a standard option in Macbook Pro's or other PC laptops. Of course, MBA's have SSD's as standard but is 64GB or 128GB really enough for you??

LABOR has been swept away by strong swings in NSW and Queensland, leaving Australia facing a hung Parliament with both houses to be controlled by independents and a surging Greens party.
Labor and the Coalition each fell short last night of winning the majority 76 seats needed to govern in their own right and last night both sides immediately started wooing the four independents and one Green who secured seats in the House of Representatives

What are you talking about? The first link gives an overview. The last link goes into great technical detail. You have to click the links and read more than just the first page.
read that too. but i think i have found something more at the developers page now.

NetNewsWire is one of the apps I use most on my Mac. They do have an web app designed for the iPhone at m.newsgator.com which wonderfully keeps all my subscriptions in sync between their full web interface (which I use at work), NetNewsWire (on my Mac at home) and my iPhone. I can't imagine a better setup and now that NewNewsWire is free, I am a happy camper.

I'd love to have real filesystem access as well as VLC on my iPad, but when i think about JBing, all that comes to mind is people bricking their iPhones.
It sounds like JBing an iPad is fairly safe as long as you're careful about what apps you use and about installing updates. For the most part, can you eventually install most iOS updates without much risk (if you take the right steps)?
Honestly, what are the biggest risks of JBing an iPad? As much as I want the benefits, I can't afford a new one if I were to do anything irreversible to this one.

STEP AWAY FROM THE JOOMLA, do not touch it.
Might be harsh, but I've found it convoluted, poorly documented and not worth the effort when there seem to be many better options around.

I bet they need to update the app for the new accessory. I have been using Netflix with the apple component cable since we got our ipad, it works great.

Blue-Ray support maybe?????
Possible but it would seem odd that apple would update the Mac Pro line twice within 2 weeks. I say this because I would expect the Mac Pro to be the first system to get Blu-Ray. Customers who bought the updated Mac Pros since CES would have an even greater reason to feel shafted than the iPhone people did with the price drop.

A big problem with the big megapixels is the amount of storage they take on your phone. You cannot adjust the megapixel size down with a phone camera like you can with a point & shoot camera. A 16 megapixel camera in a phone will not give you a better picture than a 5 megapixel camera in a phone. A phone just does not have the room to install a quality sensor.
Exactly, re: sensors. The amount of electricity-induced noise on a small 16MP sensor for a cell camera is going to render images fairly useless at large sizes (even 8.5x11 would doubtlessly require a lot of cleanup work.) For practical purposes, it may as well remain a 3MP sensor...

Somebody out there on a game specific programming forum should be able to answer this.
Google tells me Space Invaders came out in 1978, which means there are probably many many people who have done this over the years. While off the top of my head, I can think of a handful (and probably a bit hacky) ways of doing this, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a fairly quick and simple method of accomplishing this.
As you are using Cocos2d, probably the easiest way in my brain would be to just detect where your "bullet" sprite hits your barrier sprite. Then, using the bitmasking mentioned above, you would replace the collided/destroyed piece of your barrier with the background.
Edit:
Found something that outlines this:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2015863/iphone-i-am-using-cocos2d-and-need-the-rgba-value-of-a-pixel-on-a-sprite

I frown upon WoW as well... I just don't see why it is so fun, its expensive, it requires insane amounts of time, its not competitive, it requires no skill...
I second that. I've not been using for about two months now! :D
Another good multiplayer FPS is Battlefield 2142 - really fun if you get the right squad and server.

I've never found the server healthy enough to watch until 48 hours later anyway. Pity they only put the MW'07 onto the ITS. Perhaps they'll do it with the '08 - so it can download in full and the be watched.

I hope it will be the hi-res version....ya think?
