1. Your spouse can't work . Think about their self esteem and self respect they are loosing.
2. You don't know about your future if tomorrow you loose your job , you will be kicked from this country.
Tell me what is hell then ? Don't think its just about counting dollars , think about your life stability and about your family members too. I bought whole life insurance for my wife year ago for $300k from PRUDENTIAL, monthly premium is $116/month but $72 went to admin. and tran. charges. Although I paid $1276 last year, my balance was $476 after 25.2 % return on funds. whole life has surrender charges apart from hefty financial charges ,so you can not withdraw when you want.
I took $1500 loss and canceled my whole life insurance policy since I do not want to waste 70% of my premium as a financial charges.you are feeding for a company and agent s getting heavy commission on this.
Buy term life insurance and invest in Vanguard Index funds for investment purpose.

As per online status "Your response received on June 15th and processing resumed". If it's pending for couple more days, As per the rule i should get my $1000 back. Will my I-140 then thrown back in the normal (non-PP) queue?
How long USCIS tool to update the status online to show your RFE response has been received? I sent the response for RFE on June 7th and there is update about the case at all. No online status update either. God knows what they are doing with it. They are suppose to complete the case in 15 qorking days after they receive it.

If you want OCI, there are a few hoops to jump through -
1. Apply for an Indian passport first.
2. Once the Indian passport is issued, apply for the US passport.
3. Return the Indian passport after the US passport is issued. The consulate should return the Indian passport back to you, but keep a photocopy in case they don't.
4. Now you can apply for OCI on the grounds that your son once held an Indian passport.

In reality, the app was just taken up for processing - the IO figured that FP has not yet been done and sent notice and during the course of processing the app, decided to send it for interview.
Perhaps u r right. Lawyer might have just made up that story to get him off his back. The guy was pretty annoyed at not getting FP notice. He went for infopass twice and all they did was sent a FP request to CIS (told him they were doing that) but nothing happened.

If bribery and corruption are major issues, why not start the "anti-corruption" political party? It will likely be small, but it may become the "king maker" one day and have a real influence on policy. An example is the "Action Democratique" party in Quebec. They are mainly Gen-Xers which means they are almost all under 40. After decades of seperatists and Liberals dominating Quebec, they had had enough and now they are the official opposition after ten years.
For political change in the US, we have a handicap which is that we are not citizens. (Desipite this IV seems to do well.) But as an Indian, you have much more clout in India if you organize. Use the 'net as IV does. And corruption is never popular with the people who do not benefit (most of us).
