Track the status of this bill -

We can read between the lines and be as optimistic as we want..but I do not see anything in the text that excludes EADs.
As per pappu's initial email, everyone - H1B, EAD, L1 etc etc (except GC holders and citizens) are impacted by this bill.
What is the guidance to IV members? Start contacting the senators in the senate committee that deliberating on it and impress upon them to oppose this draconian bill?

So you are saying that They assigned Visa numbers to the existing cases before processing and approval the cases are not yet approved and we can expect approvals in near future once name check etc are cleared ??

McCain was in favor of two major immigration bills. I guess he has better chances to do something about immigration. On the other hand, Obama has never voted for any major immigration bill and who knows what he really will do. Also, people assume that Obama is close to senator Dick Durbin who tried to screw the legal immigrants many times. If Obama wins and Dick Durbin becomes a more influential senator, we probably will be screwed even big time.
Nobody knows who will win the election. What I find interesting is that many assume McCain will somehow help us to speed up our GC process. I don't know who will do what as the economy is in the toilet. I don't think either one will do anything about immigration for next 4 years as they have other things to take care of and legal immigration probably won't be a priority.
However, if no changes are made and things keep going the way it has been going for a while such as - dollar keeps falling, economy keeps going down, businesses keeps going bankrupt - you may not even have a job for too long. With no job, you can pretty much say "goodbye" to your GC right there.

Obama served only two year in senate (very junior member) and spent time in foreign relation commitee. McCain immigration bill (CIR) mainly to give amnesty to illegal aliens and create guest worker program. That bill was aimed (in 2005/2006) nothing but to win Hispanic votes in his bid to white house in 2008. He had no big concern for skilled workers as well as border secuity. It was all political move by McCain. McCain claims as he was a experienced, working accross party line and strong leader. If that is true, why he was not successful in passing immigration bill in 2006? Atleast Obama has right judgement and vison. Remember that, Skilled worker immigration will always be at bottom preference in any immigration bill in future, as it was in past. As economy in toilet, as McCain needs the help of the "Joe the plumber" to fix the toilet, immigartion will not get any attention even if McCain become the president. FYI, There was no single question about immigration in all 4 debates.

In order to use left-over visa numbers from EB1 and EB2-ROW, the PD cut-off for China and India must be locked. That's one of the reason why India's cut-off date has also moved.

I am surprised that this thread is still active. Usually by this time somebody from the core group puts a statement and that usually closes the discussion. I am sure this will happen soon since atleast a few posters have been requesting asistance from Pappu regarding this issue. I am just waiting for that post to come...dont know when. Hey pappu why are you taking so long......why dont you post and tell all our friends who are currently so emotional about the reality of pursuing the legal option...

I have met a British guy here in New York who was like that. He loved the money, and always smiled to me for the money. But he never even want to lift a finger for the money he has been paid to do. And he despised me and was ashamed of having to talk to me because he was surrounded by some Southerners who were equally racist.
In fact, he even scammed me for money. And he was a businessman and now a CEO of a corporation.
This is a regular practice. This happens to everyone in their daily life. People tend to be nice to u and smile when you are paying money, but after that they let you know that they hate you for what you are.

Million thanks to IV's superior organization. I am glad that my friends and I attended this event. It's just a little sad to see the local news channels reported the small protests by illegal immigrants in the Prince William County in MD but not our well-organized rally. Many people passing by us still think we are undocumented. I fully support the ideas from other members that we should highlight "LEGAL" everywhere.
I am suprised too!!! I just saw couple news agencies covering this rally....IV organisers did a great job in pulling this one....
but I am just curious to know why there was very little TV coverage for this event.....

It happened to my brother's friend's mother's uncles' newphews daughter's boss's cousin's babysitter's husband's colleage's niece's neighbor's sister's mailman's father's janitor's pharmacist's ex-girlfriend.
Now that is the entire chain this rumor has travelled so far before you heard it. This is pure BS. People seem to get a kick out of spreading out rumors.
If the person is on bench or was involved in something shady, the IOs can put them in removal proceedings and that is well within their right. Stop spreading unwanted and unconfirmed rumors.
BTW, there was a new rumor circulating for April 1: For all those that get a kick out of it, here you go!

This is bound to cause a lot of heart burn for the Indian community residing outside..
This is expected to generate ~10 Billion INR tax collection for the government in the year 2009-10.

The truth is they already know that there are professors and research scientists who are in limbo. Its just unfortunate that every one has to ride the same boat. We need to call lawmakers to tell them how bad the situation is, contribute so that IV can reach the lawmakers through lobbying. If every one does the above two things, we will reach our goal faster.

IV core should have two focus: long term plan and a short term plan.
Long term plan is anything that involves visa increase.
Short term plan is anything that does not involve visa increase, but that provides some kind of releif to us. A no-nonsense, non-controversial and simple measure that can be added to an appropriation bill is a best example.
I hope the core is reading this post...
If you have an idea, and possibly a suggestion on how to implement it, post it. Even an old idea with innovative implementation may help us.
However, please do not wait on contribution thinking until something happens I don�t have to contribute. IV core is already working on many issues, and your monthly contribution would help stabilize resource needs for current items.

I am tired of listening to depressing economic news and beating dead horse on this forum. I know you are also tired, but trust me this doesn't help anyone. I can say this because I come from area dependent on free-falling auto-industry ... yeah I am from Detroit.
Times may be tough, but we are making tougher for ourselves by re-hashing these bleak developments. Remember misery attracts misery!

I also stick them to my body in a water resistant package when i dive into a swimming pool, in case a immigration nut lay waiting there. Law is law. Why can't they collect my finger print/iris scan and determine status ?
Cos, if you are not a US citizen, the burden lies on you to prove your legal status.
This is the reason why US is losing out on tourism in a huge way.
