What a sweet deal! I would love to buy a second one as a backup simply because it's such a great price, but I don't want to be greedy. I don't imagine these will last too long.

...file > export > layouts as project > pick version 8. Will this work in 8.5?
Yes, should do :)
All versions of QuarkXpress should open docs which were created with earlier versions. Though there is the occasional passport / multi-langauage version problem which is just a pain in the bum: "This is a multiple language document and can only be opened in QuarkXPress Passport. [287]" *but that's a different topic entirely.

I got
Connection Error: Could not connect to MySQL instance at localhost. Error: Unknown system variable 'sql_mode' (code 1193) I have the exact same error. I attribute it to something I don't know that I'm doing wrong. Perhaps someone can shed some light?

Meh, my experiences at Springboard haven't been amazing, the people aren't always incredibly friendly. I think I'm going to Ardmore.
Really? I think they're great. I've had much better service with them compared to the Apple stores, hands down.

As the title suggests, can you confirm if this is a dead pixel (just above the cursor). Never had one before, so just wanted to confirm. I've used a pixel tester and it stays black whatever background colour is used.
What's the likelihood apple will replace my machine? (11" ultimate). I've taken as good a care as is possible with it. (speck see thru case, moshi palm guard, la.robe for transport, coolbook)

I'm waiting to see if it's region free.
I plan on buying one from Play-asia with Dance Central, Kinectimals, Joy Ride & Kinect Sports as Asian version is only 28 as opposed to 50 here. USA version's are region free - so I'm hopeful.
Though i also bought Playstation Move = that's pretty much doing nothing with my Wii for company at the moment.
to me the PS3 move is just the same as the Wii remote but with a camera instead of sensors.

They were first with the most applications on Mac OS X and they've done more for optimisations on it?
Considering that their applications still don't work well, I have my doubts.
Still, we need them and Macromedia was forced to stop offering xRes when it just didn't sell as a competitor to Photoshop. Pity Live Picture.
Yes, Adobe has a good strategy but they're not as great as they would have everyone believe. We know that and they know that.

Good point Dejo, here's the books:
Wrox: professional iphone and ipot touch programming, building apps for mobile safari
Obj C for Dummies
O'Reilly: Tapworthy
Payload Media: iOS4 essentials
O'Reilly: learning iPhone Programming
O'Reilly: iPhone App Dev, the missing manual
Addision Wesley: Programming in Obj C 2.0
Wiley: Obj C develop reference
Head First: iphone Development
As far as Amazon displaying more, several only show the 1st chapter, really after you have a few books it becomes more difficult to find a book that has something new in it that hasn't been covered by the other books.
I have no problem buying another book, I just don't want to buy a book that covers what I already have covered in other books.
I used to be able to browse the whole book and determine if it was going to be helpful before purchase, this doesn't seem to be the case with online books.
Books aren't expensive, but I don't want to have a bunch of books that mostly cover the same thing. Even in the past it was hard to find a good book that covered things in great detail so that you could really exploit things.
Looks like Amazon has one such book coming out about CoreAudio, I'm looking forward to that one :)
Thanks for the tip on UICatalog, I'll check it out.

If you don't have your blobs, then this isn't happening.
Yeah you can if you have a backup that isn't the current update. Also you can manually install any version of the firmware that is compatible with the phone.

Just thought I would say, I have retinapad 1.1.2 (the updated version for 4.3.1) and it works perfectly on 4.3.1. Even fixes the bugs in 1.1.1.
So I would double check if I were you. It is neither dead nor broken as far as I can see.
I have the same version.. it was 1.1.2 before 4.3.1 came out iirc. Either way, my apps all crash immediately when retinapad is enabled for them.. if i turn it off, they open fine.. ive tried reinstalling numerous times.

Is there an app that auto-completes the words when you are typing? Something like pressing the ESC button on Pages, but that works automatically?

Hmm its actually a windows PC (dont hurt me :( ) haha
so i remote in via logmein and use it that way. Im ok for a cd drive as i dont really need anything which uses a cd apart from installing the OS
Just looking at that NAS...oooooooo have you got one?
Whats the interface like? I am put off by linux web interfaces, id rather have something like logmein. if that makes sense? I feel its more controllable...but please correct me if im wrong
I won't hurt you for running windows as long as it's either 2K, XP or 7, each to their own and some software just exists/works better on PC.
The UI is an ajax webpage, it's pretty fast and fairly self explanatory as long as you don't drift into the dark recesses of iscsi targets, luns and whatnot.
I set one up for a local business that needed basic filesharing/backups. Have to admit i didn't play with all the bells, but qnap support were helpful and it was plenty fast for a group of 8 office users.
I like the fact that it could remain online all the time and draw ~12 watts on standby and less than 40 when 4 drives were up and spinning. It's got a load of ports on the back so plugging in external usb/esata drives and sharing them was a piece of piss.
If you feel you have plenty of drives already and maybe only want a small proportion of your storage protected against hardware failure, have a look at it's 2 bay little brother. QNAP TS219. Does all the same just less internal disks.

to be frank, i would wait for the new computer which will have imovie11 bundled. i have no idea what early versions of imovie do to footage on import, but it's probably not nice. If you were using FCP it wouldn't be an issue.
fyi, mpeg4 is h.264 (kind of). h.264 is actually mpeg4 part 10, but the terms are often used interchangeably. Both however, are delivery formats.
I would import as DV since it would be the native tape based format and has less compression.
