Lou Dobbs is playing to the galleries. The galleries are filled with people like him who are waiting for the sound bytes. The frenzy will keep increasing until it reaches crescendo like the NAZI campaigns. So we need to direct part of our media campaign towards stopping these lies. The only way we will get out coverage is to go out against the big ones and make the noise. We need to get all the ravings of Lou against the legal immigrants every sound byte , every word he uttered against legal tax paying wannabe immigrants( no nationality restrictions). If all of us unite and make a move against him it will make CNN see reason or Lou to talk facts and not the fiction he talks about us.

Although the issues are true, I would still prefer having absolutely correct articles, so no anti-immigrant could point his/her finger saying "look, immigrants are spreading lies". Just like we bashed them when they were claiming that we pay less taxes. It was a good point to discredit them.

I was thinking how to get a high tec job with Z visa. Because you might need to tell the employer that you are on Z visa. Tech employer might be hesitent to give us job on Z visa.
But you can start a new company and do consulting. You do not need to tell them what status you are in. All they need to know is you are a employee XYZ company.

No IV provision is in the bill.
For something to happen, each member needs to do their part by supporting this effort and taking part in action items. With so little support and initiative we cannot expect to match the kind of hard work DREAM act advocates have done.
If we need an amendment, we should be showing up for advocacy day or signing up for monthly contributions, volunteer our time, or doing any state chapter work by meeting local lawmaker offices regularly in groups. Dream Act folks have built a very strong network and advocacy effort that no politician can ignore. Go through the list of things they have been doing over the past few years and you can judge how much percentage we have as a community matched that effort. This is a reality and and ultimately it will be us that are responsible for no bill being passed in the last few years.
The community needs to do more than wasting time on the forums and trackers if they really want any bill to happen.

I don't know why some people here are taking this work based immigration here as an all out war. As it is, working and staying in the US or any other country for that matter by foreigners is a priviledge, not a right. No one forced us to come here, we came here on our own free will.
Regarding the description of discrimination of job based on country, that's rather ridiculous. There is no discrimination when one has the right to work and live in the country, that doesn't mean that anyone from any country can just come here and work with or without authorization and say it's discrimination. How about the many Indian companies who hire only Indians? Aren't they practising discrimination and fraud? They don't even bother to try to find qualified people in the country, rather they just issue H1Bs right way to Indian nationals only by just declaring a bogus "can't find qualified people in the country"

Depending on the education requirement on the labor certificate and how the lawyer responds and how your evaluatoin is done, you could have an excellent chance. I am an evaluator and we have had most MTR's approved with a 3+2 or 3+3. There is a good deal of documentation on your side. You may be able lodge a complaint at your district attorneys office. you have to find your local DA's details. If you are from one of the coasts the chances of your DA's office having a section for immigration related complaints is high.
I agree. You should contact the office of the district attorney and ask for help prosecuting your employer for financial fraud. Also change your job immediately to avoid any further trouble.

my travel date is on nov 21st and my RD for ap renewal is aug 6th. here are the things I have done so far.
1) called NSC and expedited mine and my spouse AP.
2) sent a fax copy of the expedite request letter to NEbraska service center requesting an expedite.
3) have sent all the documents to the local congressman and they are sending a letter by fax to NSC requesting to expedite.
4) Have an infopass appt for oct 28th.
5) sent another copy of the ap renewal receipt, along with 2 phographs, 485 and i140 receipt copy along with a letter requesting expedite with an email from travel agent citing financial loss if i cancel tickets.
6) also, my father in law had to undergo a bypass surgery (emergency) this week and we have received a letter from the doctor regarding the same and will be using it during the infopass if I do not see an approval (atleast online) before our infopass appointment.
what isa fax number to expedite the process for NSC, it will great if you can share the format of expedite letter.

It is all about politics. The Dems are trying to speed this up with bills etc., so that more GC holders can be naturalized as citizens and could vote for them (most immigrants genrally vote democratic) in Nov 2008. We (GC contenders) will simply hitch the ride.

I was just going through the Immigration and Nationality Act as posted on the USCIS webpage. http://uscis.gov/graphics/lawsregs/INA.htm (see Section 274A)
I did not find any reference to the employment authorisation document (EAD card) in the INA. The reference to the EAD occurs in the Title 8 of the CFR (http://uscis.gov/lpBin/lpext.dll/inserts/slb/slb-1/slb-10903/slb-27920?f=templates&fn=document-frame.htm#slb-cfrp274a) The CFR is defined on the USCIS website as below (emphasis added by me).
"The general provisions of laws enacted by Congress are interpreted and implemented by regulations issued by various agencies. These regulations apply the law to daily situations. After regulations are published in the Federal Register, they are collected and published in the Code of Federal Regulations, commonly referred to as the CFR. The CFR is arranged by subject title and generally parallels the structure of the United States Code. Thus, Title 8 of the CFR deals with "Aliens and Nationality", as does Title 8 of the U.S. Code."
Unless, I missed something, the Secretary of the DHS has the authority to issue a regulation requiring the agencies to issue the EAD at any stage, similar to the powers the Secretary has to extend the validdity of the EAD beyond a year if he seems fit. Am I correct in my interpretation? I would welcome any person to please point out the applicable law (not regulation) which mentions that EAD can only be given after appling for adjustment of status and not before.

Now how do we go about changing this provision to include I-140 -- not sure.
