While we dont want to sound repetitive, it will help if we are all asking for the same two or three things.

AFAIK, AP is considered only for emergency travel. That said, I think the officer was being over reactive.
As we all know, immigration laws are arcane. AP for emergency travel was ok when people used to get GC within 6 months of 485 filing. Now, when it can take anywhere from 1 to 3 years to get GC after 485 filing, does it make sense to have AP for only emergency?! Crap...

From my experience, I have seen the hiring managers being hand-in-glove with the Consulting companies(both desi and non-desi) from which they frequently hire...these consulting companies get the most favored status for every opening that hiring manager publishes... And I'm not talking about some non-descript company...I'm talking about Fortune 100 companies...

When a Consulting company is being hired to do a job, they take the responsibility of things going wrong...they are also hired for a fairly defined time...These are few reasons why they are paid high...also bigger the company, bigger the overhead costs...you are sponsoring a lot of cost centers dept from what you earn....
Try independent consulting to get a better share of your earning....

We've sent them in as a part of 485 and they're eating dust. Lets reinforce that to the law-makers. There's an absolute necessity to educate them what is our background. What better way than our higher education degree! Can we have an action item for this?

Thank you all for all your suggestions and support. Past 3 days was very stressed and exhausted. Your suggestions and support made me relieved and courageous. Yesterday I slept peacefully without any tensions. IV is a great forum which is helping immigrants in difficult times by providing support and useful information. I am very thankful to you all. I will keep posting the updates; I will definitely fight and overcome this situation. Now, my first priority is my baby and health.
After seeing the support in IV, it proves that still there are so many good people out there to help people in difficult times. I won't forget this in my life.

Thanks for coming forward to help this cause. Your contribution, words of support and enthusiasm helps everybody to maintain higher level of motivation which is so important for this kind of volunteer effort . Thank You.
We also need more active members in Miami as it is a huge city. Would you like to take up the responsibility to post the flyers in Chinese/Indian/Philipino stores or other places where people from these or other immigrant community gathers? Or maybe simply send out emails to send the same message to your friends. It is ok if there is any constraint.

Best way is some of the provisions in Durbin bill to restrict some abuse. Only bad thing in Durbin bill is it is banning consulting with H1bs. Other than this provision everything is good. Instead of opposing the entire bill it is better to oppose only that section.

IV is looking for someone who is in the �limbo� stage, and has made a significant contribution to the economy (ie, invented something, made a medical discovery, created a lot of jobs, etc.)
Please treat this as very very urgent. We need someone like this ASAP.

First LC rejected due to incompetence of lawyer, second LC (PERM) took 6 months instead of 45-60 days as promised. Now stuck in retrogression. Admitted to top MBA program in UK, and waitlisted at top program in U.S. Planning to go to UK as tired of being stuck and waiting.

The hard part about a consulting position in your scenario is the ability to keep your project pipeline flowing.
If you are in a field like say SAP where the demand is always there, its easier to market yourself without too much effort.
My personal opinion, note your skillsets, see if they are hot in the market and if so, keep your options flexible and try to market directly. If you are not comfortable networking or being in constant touch with resources that can help you with an opportunity, then consult under a firm...

First of all, please be decent to each other. Now, to the PBEC issue - this is a major problem, and a huge issue for all of us. Currently, the debate in Senate/Congress is centered around Immigration reform and this is a definitely a good time to raise these issues.
There are a few things we should strive for:
1. Keep all provisions of Specter's bill related to EB.
2. Re-instate per country soft limit.
If both of these provisions are passed, Priority dates for all countries will be current in EB2 and will rapidly move in EB3. A lot of folks in PBEC might be able to use PERM to apply another labor and priority dates will loose their importance, so it is important that these provisions pass.

I agree, if you are past 180 days since you applied for 485 and if your 140 is approved, it shouldn't matter if your ex employer withdraws 140 now, though I doubt he would.

You mean to say sell US real estate for GC/citizenship? I don't see this going very far. I can see anti immigrants waiting for this one. Best is to lobby using aides of big corporations, developing relationship with lobbyists who already have connections, hiring lawyers, developing strong case, donations in election campaigns etc. All of this needs loads and loads of money. Are we ready to donate to IV and build strong lobbying group for our cause? That is the only way to change our current situation.
Sending flowers, sending pizzas, sending all these proposals will only fall on deaf ears. Congress understands language of money to pass laws, Rest of the country/orgranizations understand language of laws/court.

The reason why most people end up with such situations is that the employers don�t file for H1 extensions on time. Though the law allows filing of H1 extensions upto 6 months before its expiry, most employers file for extensions only at the last moment. It�s advisable to go for premium processing in such cases, so as to get the approvals on time.
You can apply H1 extn earlier than 6 months. Mine was expiring in Sep 07. I applied on Jan 5th 07. Got 7-8-9 year extn in April.

My kids didn' go to day care until they are 1.5 years old, then they want to babysitter , they started going to day care after 2.5 years. Day care is right place for kids after 2 years, because they need other kids to play, staying home is boring for them. I have personally experienced this.
